Reiki and Johrei

The Japanese kanji in the calligraphy above — Dai Ko Myo, "Great Light Sun-and-Moon" — was used by both Mikao Usui (founder of Reiki) and Mokichi Okada (founder of Johrei) in the process of energetically empowering their students.

    * I must advise CAUTION when using Johrei, however. I felt for years that, like Reiki, the energy of Johrei (Jourei) could never do any harm. I now have to question that belief, because it seems that we can indeed get too much Jourei, too fast. Jourei is a channeled energy that comes to us from outside, and there is evidence that its purifying effects may sometimes be dangerously overwhelming, if we take too much of it too quickly. I still have seen no evidence of such a thing with Reiki, and I believe it's because Reiki, being an energy within us from the beginning, is impeccably regulated by our own body.
