"Peace" calligraphy by Rev. Henry Ajiki

I've decided to leave Henry's "Peace" calligraphy on this page for the whole year.* It seems important to have it here, beaming its Peace vibration to all of us, reminding us that the only way to bring peace to the Earth is by being peace-full ourselves. When we embody Peace in our thoughts, words, and deeds — and in every cell and atom of us — then Peace will be reflected in every creature and every cell and atom of the Earth. Let's make 2010 the year of Peace!

JOUREI

TEN-and-a-half years ago I joined the Johrei Fellowship and began learning about Johrei energy. And only within the past 8 months have I come to feel that I understand it well enough to teach and initiate others in it. Writing generically of the energy involved, I spell the word Jourei — because there are many different organizations spelling it in various ways, and because Jourei is the correct spelling according to the rules for Romanizing Japanese kanji. I still have a "Johrei" section of this website, relating to the Johrei Fellowship (which is the North American branch of Sekai Kyusei Kyo, the Church of World Messianity) ... but, when writing generically about the energy, or about my own teaching of it, I spell the word Jourei.

I'm not authorized to teach or initiate by Johrei Fellowship, and their structure is a little too rigid for me anyway. I am authorized to teach and initiate by Quan Yin Joray — but their system doesn't fit me very well, either. (Those 2 branches of my Jourei family tree can be seen here.) It seems that each organization has its own "piece of the pie" — the "pie" being the whole system as developed by Mokichi Okada, from about 1934 until his passing in 1955 — and that most of them are not interested in finding out how anyone else's piece of pie tastes.

Being naturally more eclectic myself, this scenario reminds me of The Blind Men And The Elephant — and I have chosen to poke around in various servings of the pie, putting together what I believe is a more complete understanding of it than offered by the people serving up their individual slices. My intent is to offer a clear and simple understanding of the energy, stripped of religious trappings.

Another thing that has led to my current understanding of Jourei ("purifying spirit") energy is my work with Reiki, which I've been learning from since 1991.

Dai Ko Myo: Reiki and Jourei

From my very first encounter with Johrei Fellowship, I was intrigued to learn that Mokichi Okada had used Dai Ko Myo ("Great Light Sun-and-Moon") as a way of empowering his students to transmit Jourei energy. Intrigued because Dai Ko Myo was also the "empowerment symbol" used by Mikao Usui ... to awaken the Reiki abilities of his students! It took me only 10 years : ^ } to understand well enough the similarities and differences of the two systems, that I now feel confident initiating and teaching people to use Jourei energy.

It seems to me that Reiki and Jourei together are more effective than either one by itself (even though I've long believed in the philosophy of "Once you're connected to the Source of everything, how much more connected can you get?" : ^ ). I wouldn't say that either Reiki or Jourei is more connected to the Source than the other — but they are different connections, different manifestations of Source energy. They feel different and they work in different ways.

Jourei is channeled and applied from outside of us. It burns away our spiritual clouds, dissolving the physical toxins created by them. And then, if we activate the Reiki inside of us — which opens the doorway for Shinki ("God-energy" or "Source-energy") to fill us from within — our healing and growth (by realizing our True Self) seem to unfold even more quickly and easily than with Reiki alone.

Some of the experiences reported so far by my Jourei students (in Denmark, Serbia, France, and Romania) have, in fact, astounded me! They make me wonder if Mokichi Okada was indeed correct in believing that Jourei energy is especially suited for helping us survive the purification that we must all go through at this crucial time in human history. For the past decade or so, interest in Reiki has been growing exponentially, and now ... maybe the Sun-and-Moon of Jourei, which has been previously so little known, is about to burst forth and light the horizon. It seems clear, as Okada said, that we are just now beginning to witness the first rays of the dawning of the Daylight Age (which others have called the Age of Aquarius, and the World of the Fifth Sun). Will this also prove to be the "Age of Jourei" ? : ^ >
